A month after my holiday around Spain I was craving some good tapas and tortilla, thankfully Laxeiro is only a few minutes from home. Food was as good as I had in Spain and the tortilla was even better, incredibly light and left plenty of room for the other plates. Patatas bravas were nice and tangy, prawns were very fresh and we even had room for dessert! The restaurant itself is quite small but has a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere and you might even get to see the legendary cat that sits on top of the car outside!
This is my new favourite spanish restaurant in London. It was recommend to me by family friends who used to come to Laxiero's over 20 years ago. The fact that its still standing after so many years testifies to the popularity and quality of the food served here.
I came on a Sunday, which I would not recommend, as every sunday hosts the Columbia Road Flower Market which means the place is swamped and you will without a doubt have to wait for a table. That aside the food at Laxeiro's is worth it. They offer a range of authentic tapas as well as individual Pallela's, which they make to order. I ordered a range of my favourites including croquetas, tortilla de patata, jamon and albondigas. All of which were the closest to authentic I have had outside of Spain.
The staff appear to mainly consists of a singular family and despite the restaurant being completely packed and a line of people waiting to be seated they managed to remain attentive, to bring the food relatively quickly and to make the experience overall a relaxing and enjoyable one.
One of the best restaurant experiences I have had in London.
We came here with a reservation for a birthday dinner for 4. We had a large selection of their dishes, including some of their brand new specials! We started with a Surtido de Embutidos cured meat platter, which was freshly cut and delicious with the Manchego cheese, could be better with honey or a jam with it. To drink we had a jug of refreshing sangria and a homemade lemonade (very acidic). We had a selection of tapas plates, from the menu, the padron peppers, the barbecue courgettes with rosemary manchego and honey, the seafood and chicken paella, cauliflower florets and the iberico pork shoulder (bbq’d and sliced, tasted wonderful and soft, well seasoned, great presentation). From the brand new specials board we had the iberico pork cheeks with sweet potato purée (delicious but could have had more seasoning on the pork and we thought the serving size was too small) and the roast pumpkin with parsnip purée (fabulous flavour). For dessert we had the churros con chocolate and the cheesecake. Awesome little restaurant with great atmosphere, especially with the fabric serviettes and good quality cutlery. Would recommend a reservation, just note we were limited to 1 hour 45 on a Friday night due to back to back bookings.
